A 2022 UPDATE ON OUR GRASSROOTS ATHLETE, ALASTAIR MARSHALL

You may recall that we have been rather excitingly sponsoring young Scottish athlete, Alastair Marshall, on his sporting journey as a runner. We have some brilliant updates on his recent races which we are thrilled to fill you in on.

  • The start of the Cross Country season was a slow one for Alastair as he struggled with injury problems in his knee which kept him out of running for a few weeks. This meant he only got back to running again only a couple weeks before some important cross country races, but that certainly didn’t get him down!
  • In November, Alastair raced at Scottish National Short course cross country, off the back of limited training he came 17th overall and 5th u20. That was enough to qualify him to race for Scotland at the European Cross Country Trial race at Liverpool, so was a great result all things considering!
  • At that race (under20 level), Alastair came 9th, narrowly missing out on a Trip to the European Cross Country Champs in Ireland. However off the back of so little training beforehand Alastair felt it is the most he has overperformed when it came to his fitness levels at a race, he just did not have enough training behind him.
  • Alastair also took part in the Inter-District XC which is a national event with the best 45-60 runners in each age group attending.  He came second place in the men’s senior race, resulting in his first national medal at senior level – superb result!

We look forward to seeing what is next for Alastair…
